Best Romantic / Love Movies of 2013
Here is the list of top & best 15 romantic movies of 2013 so far. If you’ve watched a great romantic movie and it is not in the list, do let me know, I’ll definitely love to add in the list and watch that subsequently.
1. The Great Gatsby
Directed By: Baz Luhrmann
Top Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
Our Take: YES! The Great Gatsby is the great love movie of 2013 so far. I loved Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance the most. He delivers one of the best performances of his acting career. Watch this to see DiCaprio enthrall your senses with a gripping performance.
2. Amour
Directed By: Michael Haneke
Top Cast: Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva, Isabelle Huppert
IMDb Rating: 7.8/10
Our Take: Amour is one of those movies which have quality content: an intriguing story, stirring performance, striking plot and masterful execution. It may not be one of the chick-flicks that most teenagers like but it is a mature and sentimental love story. Do not miss it.
3. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints
Directed By: David Lowery
Top Cast: Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster
IMDb Rating: 7.1/10
Our Take: This movie is brimmed with intense emotions and heart-touching sentiments. Cassey Affleck cruises ahead with his acting persona that is vivid in his character in the movie, same goes for Rooney Mara. If you thought Rooney Mara delivered a stunning performance in The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, you might wanna see this movie, I bet you’ll be surprised with how she adapts to her character in this one. A truly immaculate piece of storytelling, indeed!
4. The Spectacular Now
Directed By: James Ponsoldt
Top Cast: Miles Teller, Shailene Woodley, Kyle Chandler
IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
Our Take: This may appear a usual love story where a flamboyant boy meets a fastidious girl, but believe me it is way superior than that. It is packed with awe-inspiring story. A coming of age love story that will certainly leave you with tears.
5. Before Midnight
Directed By: Richard Linklater
Top Cast: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy, Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick
IMDb Rating: 8.4/10
Our Take: Before Midnight is the threequel to Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. It is an entirely different cinema – character centric and dialogue-driven romance drama that runs deeper than its facade. Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawn bring back the magic of their previous movies of the similar essence. A true cinematic delight.
Our Take: Finally, Daniel Radcliffe is out of the teenage sensation that Harry Potter character had registered him for. It is yet to be released in United States, but I was fortunate to catch a screening for this. A great story of love, envy, friendship and malice.
7. To The Wonder
Directed By: Terrence Malick
Top Cast: Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem
IMDb Rating: 6.2/10
Our Take: Terrence Malik who is known for his own style of storytelling, does that again in To The Wonder. For those who’re questioning Ben Affleck’s selection as Batman, might want to see this movie to know that he’s gotten maturer in his acting. Great cast, great story and great performance. I wonder why this movie is so underrated on the Internet.
8. Beautiful Creatures
Directed By: Richard LaGravenese
Top Cast: Alice Englert, Viola Davis, Emma Thompson
IMDb Rating: 6.0/10
Our Take: A fantasy-adventure coupled with some lovey-dovey story, Beautiful Creatures is a fine love story. Not as good as other movies but this surely has its moments of brilliance.
9. Safe Haven
Directed By: Lasse Hallström
Top Cast: Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, Cobie Smulders
IMDb Rating: 6.4/10
Our Take: From Nicholas Sparks – the author of The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, comes another beautiful love story of two people looking for true love. I reckon this is the first movie of Julianne Hough in which she truly stands out as an actress.
10. About Time
Directed By: Richard Curtis
Top Cast: Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy
IMDb Rating: 7.0/10

11. Upside Down

Our Take: Well, I had expected more from this movie: although I wasn’t satisfied the way it turned out but it was a good fair, nevertheless. Kirsten Dunst holds the movie together throughout.
12. Drinking Buddies

Top Cast: Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick

Our Take: Now, this is your chick-flick romance movie of the year. A happy-go-lucky romantic affair of four drinking buddies who find love within themselves. An average but watch-worthy movie.
13. Warm Bodies
Directed By: Jonathan Levine
Top Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich
IMDb Rating: 7.0/10
Our Take: How often do you see a human and a zombie in love? Well, this is the one in which a girls falls in love with her savior – a zombie. Watch how she melts the cold body of the zombie with the warmth of her love. A good movie indeed.
14. Admission
Directed By: Paul Weitz
Top Cast: Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Nat Wolff |
IMDb Rating: 5.6/10
Our Take: Well, ADMISSION is a very good romantic movie, however, it has some good moments of comedy and romance. If you have watched all the other good romantic movies, this one’s for you. A light-heart romcom.
15. Love And Honor
Directed By: Danny Mooney
Top Cast: Liam Hemsworth, Teresa Palmer, Aimee Teegarden
IMDb Rating: 5.4
Our Take: LOVE AND HONOR had the potential of becoming one of the best romantic movie of 2013. I mean it did have a good story, but the plot holes and poor performance hindered the movie’s essence. Anyway, the movie is still a good value for your money.
